  • How exactly do the medications work?
    The medications we use mimic a natural hormone already found in your body (GLP-1). They work in three key ways to reduce your appetite. It blocks a key hunger hormone telling your brain that you are hungry, whilst also helping to reduce leptin resistance (a hormone which can help off-set weight gain by increasing satiety aka fullness, and speed up your metabolism to help regulate the levels of fatty tissue in your body). This also helps stop the weight from coming straight back on when you stop the jab. It slows down the gastric emptying process, meaning that your body takes longer to process food and it is fuller for longer. This means your body does not need as much intake as normal as it works off the food it has. The medication helps to speed up your metabolism and increase fat burning by reducing glucogon & reducing insulin resistance. This promotes normal blood glucose levels, the liver metabolism of glucose and helps adipose tissue burn fat in a safe and controlled method without causing a sugar-crash. This avoids the urges for quick-fix sugary foods. This all helps to reduce the risk of the so-called "starvation mode" and other side effects like ketoacidosis, as you will be burning off a mixture of stored carbs & fats. Unlike fad diets which tend to starve the body when it's shouting out for food, the medication reduces your body's desire to get more food, which makes it easier to make healthier choices and to reduce calories. It also stops leptin levels from lowering due to "starvation". Low leptin levels can cause increased hunger & a slower metabolism!
  • What are the differences between these medications?
  • Are these medications genuine?
    You may have seen in the British press or on the TV about fake Ozempic entering the UK market. This has been gradually creeping into our lives via different routes - social media, market places, beauty treatment clinics, salons etc. Some even claim to have Certificates of Authenticity, which perhaps they were missold to by a supplier of fake or illegal forms of Semaglutide. It can be tricky to know what's real and what is not. It can also be tricky with wanting to lose weight but given the current cost of living crisis, the cheaper alternatives seem like a good deal at the time... but they can be very dangerous for your health and lining the pockets of those who are not regulated or have any professional responsibility or liability or a duty of care to safely oversee your health. ​ Spot the Difference: ​ Like a lot of counterfeits, it can be very difficult to see the differences initially but when you look closer, there are a few differences between the structure, mechanism and packaging of the fake Ozempic. Some key differences can be: ​ GENUINE OZEMPIC: Genuine Novo Nordisk Ozempic pens do not extend/increase in length when setting the dose. The dose dial window only shows the intended doses and no in between e.g. 0.25mg, 0.5mg and 1mg only. The glass chamber/vial containing the medication is framed & is visibly held within the pen's framework. There are no markings on the glass chamber/vial. Authentic Ozempic® pens in the UK are currently available in the following configuration - 0.25mg pen, 0.5mg pen, 1 mg pen The box containing authentic Ozempic® will include 4 needles which attach directly onto the pen. ​ ​ COUNTERFEIT OZEMPIC: ​ A counterfeit pen may extend in length when you dial the dose. The glass chamber/vial is fully exposed without any frame and shows markings on the glass. The label on a counterfeit pen could be of poor quality and may not adhere well to the pen. A counterfeit carton may have spelling mistakes on the front of the box (i.e., 1pen and 4 doses without space between ‘1’ and ‘pen’) as seen in photo below. The batch number printed on a counterfeit box may not correspond to the product strength stated on the same box and pen. ​ The medication is is governed under UK regulations by NICE & the MHRA. The medication is only sourced via UK based pharmacies who use official UK wholesalers to ensure you receive a genuine product from the manufacturer.   • Do I need to see my doctor before using these medications?
    Whilst you do not need to see your doctor or inform them that you are taking this medication, we advise that it would be sensible to keep your GP informed of any medications you use privately so that they have the full picture of your medical history.
  • How do I store the medication?
    All items (except Saxenda) should arrive in the original manufacturer's packaging - completely sealed and unopened. Saxenda may arrive in a pharmacy's own box/packaging if they have to 'break up' a box of 5 pens to accommodate 5 individual patients. Each item must contain the manufacturer's Patient Information Leaflet, and clearly display the product code, batch number and expiry date. ​ If you have ordered an injection, please ensure you store the product in the fridge before first use. After first use, you can store it at room temperature up to 30 degrees or keep it in the fridge - please ensure you use Saxenda within 30 days and Ozempic/Wegovy/Trulicity within 6 weeks. If your item breaks the cold chain (e.g. is left out of the fridge for too long), please do not be alarmed - this will start the same countdown timer as when you use the pen for the first time. You no longer need to store it in the fridge (though you can do so if you wish) and must use the pen within the above time frames
  • How do these medications aid weight loss?
    These weight loss medications are a synthetic hormone regulating the body's natural hunger hormone, GLP-1. The release of GLP-1 acts on the receptors in the appetite-control section of the brain, reducing your appetite. It slows down gastric emptying, keeping you fuller for longer which further reduces your appetite. ​ It also helps your pancreas release just the correct amount of insulin to deal with your body's glucogon, meaning it works differently for each person's individual needs. This allows sugars and carbs to be broken down in an effective way without causing a "sugar crash", which therefore avoids those quick-fix sugary cravings and a hunger for carbs. It also helps reduce leptin levels, which is a key hormone in causing a metabolism slow-down. ​ When you diet, your appetite does not shrink to match the dietary requirements. Portion control has a major impact on the ability of a person to effectively lose weight. With a suppressed appetite, you will naturally start eating smaller portions. Your stomach will start to shrink, effectively reducing the amount of food required to fill your stomach and the amount of food needed to appease your appetite.
  • How can I get the medication?
    This is a prescription-only medication and it must be prescribed to ensure your safety & suitability. There are three simple steps: Screening: you complete our easy-to-use online health form. Payment: if you are happy with all the information provided and you wish to go ahead, payment is made. Dispatch - the medication is prescribed, dispensed and dispatched to you.   • Who can use the medications for weight loss?
    The medication can be used for those with BMI over 25. We take into account a range of factors such as: ​ BMI Medical History Current Medication Body measurements Eating habits Past diets Current exercise levels ​ The programme is not suitable for: ​ Under 18's Ladies who are breastfeeding, pregnant or actively trying to get pregnant. Type 1 diabetics Anyone with a history of pancreatitis or thyroid tumours Anyone with direct family members who have had thyroid cancer
  • How much weight can I lose?
    The average weight loss per person is always different. Clinical trials for all 3 types of the medication have shown a range of weight loss between 8lbs and 19lbs. In the latest Semaglutide study released in February 2021, 75% of participants lost 10% of their body weight. During clinical trials for Liraglutide, 80% of those who used Saxenda kept the weight for over a year. The key is not to compare yourself to others losing weight - focus on yourself, your goals and your progress. Every person is different.
  • Can I not just start on a higher dose?
    No, this not advisable. Like all medications, there are the risks of side effects, adverse effects and a natural resistance if you start too high too quickly e.g. your body will actively resist the medication. The medication has been designed to start at an introductory dose to allow your body to adjust appropriately to the medication before starting to increase. Going too high too quickly can be detrimental to both your health and to your weight loss results. These guidelines are put in place by official regulatory bodies, the pharmaceutical manufacturer and upheld by medically registered professionals who have years of training in prescribing & dispensing medications.
  • What dose should I start on?
    If you are new to the medication (you have not used the medication before or you have been off the medication for more than 3 months), it is advisable to commence onto the starting dose of the medication. The starting doses for each medication are: 0.25mg Ozempic 0.25mg Wegovy 2.5mg Mounjaro 3mg Rybelsus 0.75mg Trulicity 0.6mg Saxenda If you are currently using the medication and wish to continue with that dose or increase to the next dose, and you are a returning customer to us, then you can complete a returning customer order form. If you have been using the medication with another provider and wish to continue with a higher dose, we will require a new customer health form to be completed and proof of current/previous usage. This proof can be a picture of your current medication's package showing your prescription label, which should show you name and the current dose you are taking. Alternatively, you can send us a copy of your last order's confirmation email displaying your name and the dose.
  • What if my dose is too strong or too weak?
    We will happily advise you on what to do to mitigate a dose that is not quite right for you. We can be contacted by email and telephone.
  • When should I increase my dose?
    Everyone is different - you may find your current dose works well or you may find you need to increase your dose. If you wish to discuss your dose, please get in touch.   • How do I administer my injection?
    There are several areas you can inject the medication (Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Trulicity and Saxenda). For Saxenda, we recommend rotating the injection site each day. For the weekly injections, it is not as vital to rotate the injection sites unless you start to notice any clumping beneath the skin, swelling or irritations.   • What other side effects have been noted in clinical trials?
    Common: may affect up to 1 in 10 people • complications of diabetic eye disease (retinopathy) – you should inform your doctor if you experience eye problems, such as changes in vision, during treatment with this medicine. Uncommon: may affect up to 1 in 100 people • Inflamed pancreas (acute pancreatitis) which could cause severe pain in the stomach and back which does not go away. You should see a doctor immediately if you experience such symptoms. Rare: may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people • severe allergic reactions (anaphylactic reactions, angioedema). You should seek immediate medical help and inform your doctor straight away if you get symptoms such as breathing problems, swelling of face, lips, tongue and/or throat with difficulty swallowing and a fast heartbeat. Other side effects Very common: may affect more than 1 in 10 people • feeling sick (nausea) – this usually goes away over time • diarrhoea – this usually goes away over time Common: may affect up to 1 in 10 people • being sick (vomiting) • low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) when this medicine is used with another antidiabetic medicine The warning signs of low blood sugar may come on suddenly. They can include: cold sweat, cool pale skin, headache, fast heartbeat, feeling sick (nausea) or very hungry, changes in vision, feeling sleepy or weak, feeling nervous, anxious or confused, difficulty concentrating or shaking. Low blood sugar is more likely to happen if you also take a sulfonylurea or insulin. • indigestion • inflamed stomach (‘gastritis’) – the signs include stomach ache, feeling sick (nausea) or being sick (vomiting) • reflux or heartburn – also called ‘gastro-esophageal reflux disease’ (GERD) • stomach pain 5 • bloating of the stomach • constipation • burping • gall stones • dizziness • tiredness • weight loss • less appetite • gas (flatulence) • increase of pancreatic enzymes (such as lipase and amylase). Uncommon: may affect up to 1 in 100 people • change in the way food or drink tastes • fast pulse • injection site reactions – such as bruising, pain, irritation, itching and rash • allergic reactions like rash, itching or hives.
  • Are there any side effects?
    Like any new medication introduced to your body, your body will have to adjust to it. Some people get mild side effects, such as headaches, nausea, dry mouth or tiredness. These side effects are generally mild and are transient - which means they will go after a few days once your body has adjusted. ​ You will have access to aftercare information on how to deal with any potential side effects, along with the Patient Information Leaflet which goes into greater detail. ​​Everyone is different. You may not experience any side effects, you may experience one side effect or several side effects. ​ General Side Effects: The most common side effects associated with this medication are: ​​ Nausea Headaches Dry Mouth Constipation Loose Stool Tiredness Stomach Cramps ​ Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any support on dealing with side effects. We are more than happy to advise you. ​ Adverse Effects: ​Adverse effects are rare but they are something you should be aware of. ​ Adverse effects may include: ​ Palpitations / Fast Heart Rate Pancreatitis ​ If you experience or feel that you may be experiencing these adverse effects, please stop using the medication & contact 111. When you are safe to do so, please contact us. ​ Anaphylaxis: ​There have been no documented cases of an anaphylactic reaction to these medications but as this is a new medication being introduced to your body, we want to make you aware of the possible signs of anaphylaxis. ​ If you experience swelling of the lips/tongue/throat, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, a severe rash or severe itching, discontinue use immediately and call 999. ​ Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any support on dealing with side effects.   • Can I take steps to reduce the risk of side effects?
    There are steps you can take to mitigate the risk of side effects (though some times, we still get them no matter how hard we try - life likes to throw curveballs at us sometimes!). Common side effects should be mild and are likely to lessen or even disappear after your body gets used to the treatment. We understand that it’s still tough to live with these discomforts though and so we’ve put together some tips for managing these where possible: Make sure to inject yourself with the treatment at the same time and day each week so your body has a regular interval between each dose Stay hydrated, sipping water and other clear liquids if you’re experiencing nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea. It may also help to eat smaller meals more regularly and avoid anything that smells or tastes too strong If you’re struggling with constipation, increase your fibre intake, stay well hydrated and try eating small fruits such as prunes, figs or grapes. Make sure you’re also getting regular activity, such as going on short walks To ease a headache, spend time in a quiet space to relax, take a simple pain relief medicine like paracetamol, drink plenty of water, and try relaxation techniques such as meditation and DIY scalp massage For more information on managing side effects and what to do if you experience more severe side effects, see our dedicated aftercare page for our customers.
  • How do I report any side effects?
    You can report any side effects to us if they are mild. If you feel they are potentially life threatening e.g. anaphylaxis, please call 111 or 999 or attend A&E. You can also report side effects directly via the Yellow Card Scheme Website: www.mhra.gov.uk/yellowcard Or search for MHRA Yellow Card in the Google Play or Apple App Store.
  • How can I deal with the most common side effects?
    Some of the most common side effects can be dealt with by using old-age remedies or over the counter remedies readily available in supermarkets or chemists/pharmacies. Headaches and/or a Dry Mouth: Light to mild headaches may be experienced for approximately for 24-72 hours once you have commenced onto treatment. This is related to the introduction of a new medication to the body and dehydration - the medication actively slows down your gastric system, so your body uses up more fluid to keep the food you consume soft & palpable to continue moving to the end goal (loo loos). Ensure you are drinking plenty of clear fluids (water, not vodka!) to keep hydrated and to help off set headaches. If the headaches are persistent little buggers, you can take some paracetamol as directed by the paracetamol's instructions - this is usually 1 or 2 x 500mg tablets every 4 to 6 hours. Do not exceed more than 8 tablets per 24 hours. ​ Nausea / Sickness / Vomiting: A portion of clients can experience mild to strong nausea. This can last for approximately. 24-72 hours when first starting the medication or increasing your dose. It can be dealt with by using some old fashioned home-remedies - try eating a few shavings of fresh ginger or a few ginger-stem biscuits (sugar free if possible) or ginger tea or peppermint tea. These usually settle the stomach. Alternatively, you can purchase over-the-counter anti-sickness medication or we can provide you with anti-sickness medication (this would be a prescription medication at a cost of £9.99 plus £1 delivery). Stomach cramps or discomfort: We all have had that horrible moment when the cramps start and we feel that we may need to go to the toilet. Very few of our clients report that they experience stomach cramps but when it does happen, it's usually due to the changes to the gastric system caused by the medication. Over-the-counter Buscopan or peppermint tea can be used to treat this. However, sometimes the cramps can lead to diarrhoea, which can be a bit more serious if it does occur - this is your body's response to the medication as it adjusts. Stomach cramps and / or diarrhoea can also occur when you eat certain foods that your body no longer agrees with due to the medication e.g. greasy, high saturated fat foods. Diarrhoea: Sometimes our body just doesn't like the medication when it is first introduced to our system. Other times, our body has adjusted to the medication and it simply no longer likes certain types of food or drinks you may be ingesting. The most common foods to avoid are those high in saturated fats, stodgy carbs or greasy foods - this can really play havoc with your system when you're using these medications, which is kind of good if it puts us off from having them when trying to lose weight but it doesn't give us a pleasant experience! Constipation: Sometimes our body goes into the complete opposite effect and your bowels slow down to the point of constipation. The medications naturally slow your gastric system down so that the food you ingest moves at a slower rate through your gastric system. To help reduce the risk of experiencing constipation, we recommend you drink plenty of clear fluids, eat foods high in protein and fibre, and ensure you are eating regular meals every day (even if they're small) - this helps train your body to get into a good routine for excavating the food you ingest. Tiredness / Fatigue: You may experience a heightened level of tiredness for a few days as your body uses energy to get used to the new medication and to work on slowing down your gastric system. As it adjusts to this new way of working, your levels of tiredness / fatigue should start to ease.   • How do I place an order?
    If you are new to us, even if you have used the medication with another provider, we will require a full health form to be completed. This is so that we can assess your safety & suitability to use the medication. If you are a repeat customer (you have purchased from us before), you can complete our quicker Repeat Order Form via our website. Please see Treatment Options for more details and to access the two different types of ordering forms.
  • Who is your payment provider?
    Our payment provider is PayPal, so your transaction is safe and protected by PayPal Buyer Guarantee. You can also choose to Pay In 3 payments rather than all at once. You do not need a PayPal account to pay - you can checkout as a Guest and pay with your normal credit or debit card. ​ Once payment has been processed and your health form has been approved, we will send the medication to you on one of your selected delivery days.
  • Am I a new or returning customer?
    We classify a NEW customer as someone who is new to us as a customer, even if you have used the medication before from elsewhere, OR if you have not ordered with us for 12 months, we will require a full up-to-date health form. A RETURNING customer is someone who has previously received treatment from us within the past 12 months and a shorter Repeat Order form can be completed.
  • How do I pay once I've submitted my form?
    For payment, you can either proceed to the checkout page after the health form/repeat order form. Alternatively, you can wait for us to assess your suitability and send you a manual invoice via email.
  • What if my delivery is delayed?
    Like with most things in life, there can be an issue which can cause a delay with your delivery. We will do our best to assist and reduce further delay, however there is a process when dealing with delays. We have to liaise with your courier and this is not an instant result - it can take time to liaise with the courier and find a resolution depending on what the cause of the delay is. ​ Some of the most common delays can be; ​ Delivery attempted: The courier will attempt to deliver to your delivery address (the delivery address as shown on your Order Confirmation email). If there is no response, the courier will either return your order to the nearest depot for collection / redelivery, attempt delivery the following day or leave in your nominated safe place / neighbour (depending on the instructions you had set via your tracking email). ​ Driver unable to find property: If you live in a rural area or in a property with a difficult to find entrance, please send us a picture via email of your property front (where the driver is supposed to deliver the item) or send us your location via WhatThreeWords. If the driver is unable to locate the property, the courier will either return your order to the nearest depot for collection / redelivery or leave in your nominated safe place / neighbour (depending on the instructions you had set via your tracking email) if they can find it. ​ Address incorrect / incomplete: Please ensure your delivery address is complete and correct on your Order Confirmation email. The address in that email is the address that syncs with our couriers. We can amend this prior to shipment but once shipped, we cannot guarantee a change in time to enable the scheduled delivery - this may cause a delay to your item arriving. ​ Other issues: Sometimes other issues occur, such as sickness, vehicle breakdowns, or a random unidentified issue at the depot. We will log a formal ticket / complaint with the relevant courier and seek a swift resolution from them.
  • What if my delivery address is not correct?
    Please ensure the delivery address is correct on your Order Confirmation email - for every order processed by us, you will receive a formal confirmation of your order via email. If you have previously used a different address or changed your address with us, please ensure this is reflected in each Order Confirmation email. This is the address that automatically syncs with our couriers. You will also receive a confirmation email on the day your item is expected to be collected by DPD, which also re-confirms the delivery address. You will then receive an email on the day of delivery from DPD confirming the delivery address. These are three opportunities for the delivery address to be identified as correct or incorrect - if the address needs amending, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can amend accordingly and reduce the risk of a delay to your order. ​ If your order is delayed due to an incorrect address, we will endeavour to get the issue rectified as soon as possible. Please be aware that the time frame can be fluid, depending on the speed of response from the courier, pharmacy and any other third party; whether any returns need to occur; whether there is sufficient stock to replace an item (if applicable) etc. There are a lot of extenuating circumstances that can affect timing, but we will chase from our end as much as possible to ensure any issues are dealt with as promptly as possible.
  • What if I have an issue with my delivery?
    No matter the issue, any enquiries with your order / delivery must be made in writing via email - info@ajhillaesthetics.co.uk ​ If you have any issues with delivery, please raise this with us in writing as soon as possible. The couriers we use operate a strict time frame for logging issues with delivery, whilst the pharmacies have a strict time frame for replacing any items. If we are not made aware of any issues with delivery within 7 days of your shipment date, we cannot guarantee resolving the delivery issue. ​ All enquiries will be handled by our admin team during Monday to Friday, 9am-6pm.
  • How do you send the items that need to be kept chilled?
    We send all injectable medications in temperature-controlled packaging with ice packs. Internal audit data from the packaging companies we use state that the products are kept cool for up to 48 hours. Your item usually arrives within 24 hours of packaging.
  • How much is delivery?
    We offer UK Special Delivery via whichever courier can deliver your item on your selected delivery day(s) for £4.99. This does not cover the full delivery cost, but we absorb the rest of the costs within the price you pay. We ship using APC, DPD, UPS and Royal Mail. For Ireland, we ship using one of the above couriers to your selected forwarding service. The forwarding service is a third party and they ship to you with their own courier.
  • How long can it take to deliver my order?
    We aim for Next Working Day Delivery, where possible, within the UK. This is dependent on the time your form is reviewed, the time of your payment and the time of when the pharmacy dispenses your medication. None of our pharmacy suppliers ship on a Saturday or Sunday, so we are unable to deliver on Sunday or Monday. Your product can arrive between Tuesday & Saturday, depending on your selected delivery days and time/day of order. Our next working day delivery cut off is 1pm once all checks & payment has been made. ​ There are certain areas & postcodes where delivery may take longer. It can take up to 2 working days for Northern Ireland and postcodes: HS2, IM, JE, PA60 - 75, 78, ZE2, 3.   • What happens if the cold chain breaks?
    If the cold chain breaks during transit (e.g. there is a delay in delivery or you miss the delivery) or you forget to unpack the medication to put in the fridge before first usage, please do not become alarmed. Should your item break the cold chain, it will start the same chemical process as when you use the pen for the first time (e.g. piercing the medicated vial with your first needle for your first injection). ​ What this means is that you must use your medication within the recommended time frame (not the expiry date shown on your medication) and you no longer have to store the pen in the fridge (after first use or if your medication breaks the cold chain) - however, it will do no harm to continue to store the pen in the fridge. Some people prefer the medication to be cool upon injection, whereas others prefer it to be at ambient (room) temperature. ​ If you believe your medication has broken the cold chain prior to first use, please email us immediately so that we can advise you appropriately and, if necessary, inform you of the recommended time frame to use your medication.
  • How do you send the medication?
    If you have been prescribed a medication for weight loss, we will send this via next day Special Delivery with Tracking. You will be sent the tracking details the day before delivery once your item is confirmed with the courier for collection. ​ Certain couriers will email you the day of delivery with a time frame of when to expect your package (e.g. APC, DPD and UPS) whilst Royal Mail always aim to deliver before 1pm. If there are any issues with your delivery, please contact us immediately via email so everything is in writing for us to liaise with the relevant courier.
